For my fall internship at Blue Origin, I was highly involved in improving the manufacturing capabilities of the New Glenn rocket assembly line. I led the development of proximity sensors research and testing. I also provided design inputs for improved dimensional stability of the first New Glenn stage using tolerance stack-up analyses in 3DCS.
My main work revolved around rocket structures made of high-grade aluminum and especially carbon fiber. For carbon fiber panels as large as an average living room, I led the design of the assembly fixture with 6 axes of maneuverability. I designed the welded structure for ease of manufacturing, low cost, yet extremely rigid and durable.
